We are exited to announce that AOL 9.1 has been released for all users, both free and paid!
AOL 9.1 is the latest version of AOL's integrated, desktop software. Sharing the look and feel of 9.0 versions, AOL 9.1 provides enhancements to web browsing, email, instant messaging, and other areas of the service. You can download AOL 9.1 at Discover AOL.
AOL 9.1 offers some exciting new features around browsing. If you already have connectivity (like broadband) you can browse without signing on. That way you can quickly and easily get directly onto the web. We'll prompt you for sign-on when you ask or attempt to get access to personal information, like email or IM.
Email has been enhanced as well. In AOL 9.1, we offer an "Inbox" style email system. If you are already a user, you can continue with the "Old/New" view, or adopt the new Internet-based "Inbox" style (which contains all old and new email together). We've also extended your mailbox with unlimited storage. For current users, if you would like to switch to this new style, go to KW: Inbox.
We have also added RSS support providing a quick and easy way to manage your favorite RSS feeds on the myAOL website.
Over the next few weeks, we'll provide additional details and rationale behind the new features in AOL 9.1. Watch this area for new entries where we'll respond to your questions, comments, and suggestions.
Until then, have fun with the AOL 9.1!
Thanks,
Doran Butuche

1. I no longer reply to nor forward emails with graphics or photos for they are automatically uploaded which takes too much time. This has hindered the usual enjoyment I use to have with my emails for I no longer can share them with others. I do not like 9.1 at all!! Back to 9 for me...

2. Did you notice above that AOL is "exited to announce that AOL 9.1" "EXITED??" They proof their press releases like they proof their computer code. 9.1 is a real dog. So I "exited" it... After reverting back to 9.0, anyone know how to get the annoying pop-up asking me to install 9.1 to STOP?

3. What should I do?
All of the sudden all of the icons for AOL 9.1 on my desktop turned to some little white microsoft-type square and clicking any AOL icon resulted in nothing. AOL 9.1 seemed to be working just fine before this. I went to the Start menu "Programs" and tried to use the "sign on to AOL Now" icon and it did nothing. Luckily I was able to use the Start (XP) menu to "Connect to" using AOL 9.0. I got some microsoft windows message. I had to sign on to AOL as "guest" because it absolutely would not work any other way and then it asked for my name and password. Now, when I start the computer, it says, "Failed to load dll."
Connecting this way is unacceptable and the connection is inferior to what it was--my favorites are not on the Favorites menu for example. Should I download AOL 9.0 and hope for the best? I've looked through the AOL "wizard" and help sections and it says to use the AOL System Information Utilities but that suggests I check with AOL first. The option that this Utility offers is to rebuild AOL or something like that. I'm afraid that if I do something that I'll be even worse off.

4. We are very disappointed with 9.1. First my toolbar got corrupted and many icons disapeared and some icons from other screen names got mixed into the main screen name. Also signing on is slower and more cumbersome. And things lock up on occasion which 9.0 did not do to us. We are not happy with this supposed upgrade so we will uninstall it and go back to 9.0 which will hopefully bring us back to where we were a few months ago. And....we will certainly hesitate to install any new versions without waiting for a year for AOL to work out the bugs.

5. My PC Guru down loaded the 9.0 VR from Goggle. It took about 5/10 minutes. Happy? Don't know yet. For years I used 9.0 Security Edition, and was very happy but it was old. My PC guru says stay away from Vista.

6. I'm hesitant to download 9.1 version as I've read so many negative comments. I'm using 9.0VR right now and think I'll wait til the bugs are worked out ... whatever they are.

7. The signature function in AOL 9.1 is a problem especially if you are replying to a message. Instead of inserting the signature ant the cursor location, it is placed at the bottom of the e-mail and adopts the formatting of the last line of text. So if you're replying to and/or quoting a previously sent e-mail, the signature is indented and adopts the font color and style of the text in the previous e-mail.

8. I tried AOL 9.1 & I do "not" like it because, I want to be SIGNED IN, when I connect to AOL. I'm sticking with AOL 8.0VR
because, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Edward, Indiana

9. Hello Edward,
You can have AOL 9.1 automatically sign you in at start up. Just click on the “Settings” Toolbar Icon, then select “Start-up Settings”. Now just check the box next to “Automatically sign on with this screen name when I open AOL”, enter your password and you should be set.

10. I tried AOL 9.1 and eventually I went back to AOL 9.0VR because of all the problems it has.It kept stopping and I kept getting an error message that could not be deleted and I had to keep turning off my computer to get rid of it.I would advise everyone to wait until the bugs have been worked out.

11. I'm definitely ready to switch back. When I grab a quote from a message for my reply, it puts it under the signature. Useless to me there and too much work to cut and paste. Why isn't this in the proper place?!

12. I had to reformat my hard drive a few days ago and now downloaded 9.1. I like the classic version better but can't find it anywhere to download. Anyone know where I can download aol 9.0vr?

13. I downloaded AOL 9.1 a couple of weeks ago. The insert picture feature in an e-mail is a problem. It keeps "preparing the picture for upload" which takes a while before it is inserted. AOL 9.1 also kept shutting down and restarting. I hated it and deleted it.

14. For some reason AOL 9.1 loaded itself on my PC. I did not request it. I saw the notice flash past and did not even have AOL running except for AIM. Now my browsers do not work. My email is very slow and I use outlook. Can anyone or did anyone have the same problem. Can anyone help me with this. I can not even look at an answer on my own PC and I am using my daughters to send this.
