Howdy everyone,
AOL Desktop received a glowing (and thorough) podcast review a few weeks ago from Dick DeBartolo aka The GizWiz.
Here's the link. After a brief intro about gadgets, the story on how Dick got into AOL Desktop begins about 2 or 3 minutes in.

Cheers,

3. As an AOL user since 1994, I wish I could agree with Giz Wiz, but, while the Desktop has many nifty features, this is the first time I have been truly unhappy with an AOL version. Here are just some of the reasons why:
--First, not only does the application itself freeze a lot, but since I installed Desktop, I find that I have to reboot my computer quite frequently.
--Second, there are some extremely impractical features about AOL archiving in this new version. For one, if you save your "sent" mail to AOL, it integrates your outgoing and incoming mail into one list. The problem is that your sent mail is listed as "from" you--the recipient is not indicated. And, since the search function does not find anything in the body of the email, but only in the "from" and subject lines, you have to open your sent mail one piece at a time to find a piece of outgoing mail.
--Am I completely missing something, or is it really true that you can't save an email as a document file (e.g., Word)?? Why?? This function existed on all previous versions, not to mention on any other email program I've ever seen.
If I'm wrong, and someone has figured any of this out, I'd love to hear about it. I've emailed AOL support several times, but have never received a single answer. As it stands, I'm wondering how I can keep using AOL as my primary email service provider. It's a shame, I've been such a fan through thick and thin.

4. Sharon, thanks for your feedback and comments. As for your performance problems, feel free to email me your system spec and we'll see if we can get more info on the problems you're coming across.
I'll take your other comments into account and share with the team here. We continue to offer a more classic experience in AOL 9.1 for those who feel AOL Desktop just isn't for them.

5. My computer crashed and now I have AOL version 10. I hate it hate it hate it. I joined AOL in the early 1990's and like Sharon this is the first version I haven't liked. I don't like the way saving my email works. I can't select multiple messages and delete or save them. I can't run Auto AOL. I can't find any way to contact technical support. You say you still offer 9.1, but when I go to downloads, I can't find it.

6. How do you download the better in every way version 9.1? I went to downloads and could not find it.

7. waltezell, you can download 9.1 from here: http://daol.aol.com/software/91
HOWEVER, if you already installed 9.0 or 9.1 before upgrading to AOL Desktop, you can still go back to 9.0 or 9.1 as long as you didn't uninstall them!
Earlier in this blog, I included information on how to go back to an earlier version of AOL.
Here's that link once again: http://desktopblog.aol.com/2008/01/14/how-do-i-go-back-to-using-9-0-or-9-1-after-installing-desktop/
