A Dedicated 9.1 User Tries Desktop, Part 1

So here's something you should know about me. I just got a cell phone not too long ago. It does not take pictures or play songs – it makes calls. I finally bought an HD DVD player. Two days later they announced BluRay had "won" and they'd stop making HD DVDs. Not that it matters seeing as I have yet to get an HD TV. I am not "cutting edge" when it comes to technology, especially upgrading to a whole new experience. And you should also know, I have had essentially the same AOL since 1994.

Now I know AOL has undergone many new versions in the last 14 years. I did upgrade through the years and while each new version has offered some great new perks, my AOL "experience" has remained pretty much the same. I sign in, I know where to find my Welcome Screen and what it will look like. I know how to easily read and sort my mail, where my favorites are, what the icons mean and I tend to "keyword" like crazy. So, when I heard AOL Desktop was going to be different, slicker and more sophisticated, with a (gasp!) new layout and experience, I didn't bother trying it out.

However, I also have been hearing really great things about it over the last six months. When I was approached to contribute to this blog, it seemed like maybe it was time to give it a trial run. In the coming weeks, I will give you an honest reaction to my experience as I download and go through Desktop, discover what works for me and what doesn't, and how it compares to the classic version I've been used to.

My next blog will be about downloading the new release of Desktop. More to follow, so stay tuned.
