Hi everyone! We have a new AOL client beta available and we welcome input. We actually beg for input! However, you should know that this one is different from AOL Desktop in that it is based off a "Classic" view. (Read "Classic" as waol.exe style experience.)
Please consider taking a look. Click HERE to start the download process.
Thanks again,
Kevin

The AOL Desktop Client team is pleased to announce the release of AOL Classic Beta.
Terrie is the lead product manager on the AOL Desktop Affinity software. Terrie works to define new views of Desktop. Like the Asylum Desktop and LemonDrop Desktop. Take a look, they are neat!
Summer is a Sr. Manager for AOL Member Communications. While she has no ties directly to the product development team, she has been a contributor to many AOL blogs over the last few years and is excited to bring a non-product team perspective to the Desktop blog.

1. This is the buggiest piece of software I've seen in awhile.
No web pages will open in a new tab, even though set that way. I've changed it to New Window, that doesn't work either.
Some of this may be Vista related, because I know users on XP that there Favs will open in a New Tab, mine won't on Vista.
I'll beta test this, but will stay with AOL Desktop and AOL 9.1.

2. I downloaded the AOL Classic yesterday and I must admit I'm not ready to adopt it yet. I think a lot of the reason is that there's so many things confuzzling about it yet. One thing I very definitely do not like is the way mail is displayed. The sizing is a big turn off as the mail is just too long and hard to get sized right. I much prefer the 'old' e-mail of AOL's. I'll have more to say on this later but just wanted to put up a preliminaty comment first.

3. The very first thing I tried, 'open in new tab' didn't work.
Next, I open an email and I'm annoyed by a very visually distracting ad! ..
I have several 'windows' open and like the old 9.1, I can't find anything that can show me - like internet explorer - what's up and where is it! ..
The best part, it is NOT screwed up like AOL 10.!!
You have work to do..

4. This new system is much too slow, somewhat confusing and needs to be restarted much too often. I prefer the old plateform.

Hey Mitch,
We're working hard on the next version of AOL Desktop for Mac and almost all of the development is centered around improving the mail experience. Stay tuned!
Thanks...

6. I was all set to like 10.1 until I discovered that there is no way to turn off that annoying greeting voice.
What genius decided that?
Well, whomever he or she is, please pass on that I am immediately abandoning 10.1.
